There has been unrest reported in Kakamega Town after irate members of the public pulled down a Safaricom base statetion along Kakamega -Kisumu Road.
The security guard manning the facility had to take to his heels no sooner had the Supreme Court passed it’s ruling on the presidential election petition this morning when an angry mob approached the site.
The mob then pulled down the wall and destroyed the equipment therein before setting the standby generator ablaze.
Last year, Safaricom become the the first and so far only service provider when it officially launched the fourth generation data services in Kenya and rolled out hundreds of 4G base stations countrywide at the cost of billions of shillings.
Meanwhile, there have been unconfirmed reports of similar attacks on Safaricom facilities Kachok, Otonglo and Ahero all within Kisumu County this afternoon. Unve4ifoed sources says outlets are closing and staff fleeing.
