Activists Okiya Omtahtah has this morning filed a petition at the high Court asking for orders that shall declare the government’s unilateral shut down of live television transmission is a violation of the Constitution.

Omtahtah has sued the Communication Commissions of Kenya, Cabinet Secretary ICT, Cabinet Secretary interior and the Attorney General seeking that they additionally order for compensation of the to media companies for pecuniary loss incurred during the unprecedented switch off.

The suit also wants the courts to award general damages for violation Kenyans’s constitutional rights
and an order that the respondents bear the Petitioner’s costs of then suit.
