Disturbing reports reaching Kenya Live News indicate that Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama is in a critical state at a hospital in the USA where he was flown on Friday to under go specialised treatment for what witnesses said was “failing limbs”.
At the same time, his son Ndemo Nyagarama, has now been been admitted to Nairobi Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after being diagnosed with Fungal Meningitis. Ndemo has spent several months at the same hospital.
The Nyangarama family is reportedly in deep distress following the latest developments. As we went to press, the ailing Governor was yet to be updated on the condition of his son.
According to sources in Nyamira, Governor Nyangarama’s health has substantially deteriorated at a unnamed US hospital where he was admitted on Saturday.
Last week, Nyagarama formally authorised to his Deputy Amos Nyaribo asking him to temporarily take over until he recovers and he returns to the country in good health.
“You will be required to discharge gubernatorial duties except in nominating, appointing or dismissing officials as outlined in 179(5),” read the governor’s letter.
His absence from the country has heightened political temperatures with succession battles dominating in the region.
At Nairobi Hospital, Nyagarama’s son, Ndemo Nyagarama, is also battling illness and has since been put on life support
John Obiero Nyangarama, born 1946, and a close confidant of ODM Party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga, is currently serving his second term as an ODM elected governor of Nyamira County.
Sources from Orange House, his party headquarters, confirmed that H.E. Odinga who is on a working tour of the United Kingdom was closely monitoring Nyangarama situation.
