Deputy President William Ruto was reported to be in deep shock yesterday after President Uhuru Kenyatta handlers blocked his plan to join the president in Nyeri.

The two Jubilee leaders were in State House in the morning for a media briefing on this year’s World Bank Ease of Doing Business report that shows Kenya has improved by 19 positions.

However, as President Kenyatta and his entourage were planning to depart for Nyeri by two Kenya Air Force VIP helicopters which had just landed at State House grounds, Ruto and a few aides positioned themselves to fly with the president.

It was at this moment that Kinuthia Mbugua, the State House Comptroller approached the DP and quietly told him the presidential program had been finalised and sealed, leaving no space for the DP.

State House sources told us Kinuthia Mbugua was effectively telling Ruto he could not join Kenyatta in Nyeri since he had no business there.

It would appear DP Ruto’s intention was to gatecrash Uhuru’s meeting with Kikuyu MPs in Nyeri but the system had other ideas knowing Ruto interests in the 2022 presidential elections.

Other sources told Kenya Live News that Ruto’s protocol and media team had already travelled to Nyeri the previous evening.

While in touring the Mt Kenya region yesterday, in widely publicised remarks, Uhuru Kenyatta is reported to have declared he will surprise people with his choice for presidency in 2022 and told off politicians for shunning development at the expense of politicking.

It is not clear if the President’s remarks were directed at DP Ruto who has made numerous forays into Central Kenya in the recent past in 2022 campaign meetings disguised as development tours.
