The Luo community have once again demonstrated political maturity by asking one of their own son Dr Evans Kidero who was caught up in the ongoing corruption purge to carry his own cross and face the full wrath of the law.

In the past, every time such senior leaders are arrested on different cases, the accused leaders would go back to their respective communities and incite the locals with claims that their community is “unfairly being targeted”.

For instance, ever since the corruption purge began following the famous handshake on March 9th, William Ruto allies have been jumping from one function to another crying foul that the whole process is targeted to the Deputy President.Since the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji charged several suspects in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal and Kenya Pipeline, the lieutenants of the Deputy President grew jittery, even holding meetings to interrogate the import of what some of them believe is a witchhunt, feeling they are unfairly being targeted.

The MPs, mostly from the DP’s Rift Valley backyard were reported to be plotting an all-out political battle against President Uhuru Kenyatta whom they blame for what they call a plot to derail Mr Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions. In their meetings mostly held at Ruto’s Weston Hotel, The Mps are quoted on several media houses vowing to hit back in the event the corruption purge knocks at DP Ruto’s door.

In other cases, we have witnessed Nyeri residents early this year holding demonstrations protesting the arrest of former CS Michael Kamau over KSh 33 million graft, a move that met an immediate rejection by President Uhuru Kenyatta who warned leaders against hiding behind their communities to steal public funds.

The Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was arrested at a Nairobi Hotel by EACC detectives over graft claims; officials said he’ll be charged alongside 7 others after receiving information concerning alleged criminal activities involving Nairobi City County Government officials touching on the mismanagement and embezzlement of Public funds.

To this end, the Luo community have been widely celebrated for being true to themselves and standing for what is right. After the all powerful former Nairobi governor was arrested over corruption, the Luo generally remained calm, and most of them actually celebrated the arrest of the besieged former Nairobi Governor, saying its a good step in war against graft.
