NRM General Miguna Miguna nomination as Nairobi’s deputy governor has been rejected by Nairobi County Assembly.
The speaker Beatrice Elachi rejected his nomination as Sonko’s deputy citing Article 78 of Constitution on dual citizenship.
Miguna had been nominated by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as Polycarp Igathe’s replacement following his resignation based on lack of trust between the two.
Sonko said Miguna was best placed to help him in fighting the cartels at City hall going to the extent of requesting President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow Miguna back to the country in the spirit of the handshake between him and NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Miguna’s nominations sparked debate with Senator Sakaja and several Jubilee MCA’s in Nairobi vowing to ensure it doesn’t see the light of the day.
Last week, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris told Kenyans that she was equally ready to resign from his seat to deputize Sonko in the spirit of the handshake.
She however, gave conditions for her resignation key being a clear defined role she is to have under Sonko with key Ministries to hold for service delivery.
Miguna’s rejection by Nairobi County Assembly now forces Governor Sonko to go back to the drawing board and nominate a candidate who will easily sail through.
