Former Meru Governor Peter Munya files application seeking to withdraw his petition against his successor Kiraitu Murungi’s win in the August 8 elections.
Munya had challenged Kiraitu’s election at Meru High Court saying it wasn’t free and fair , that his team witnessed many irregularities.
Munya who was defending his seat on the PNU party ticket garnered 232,569 votes against Kiraitu’s 281,737.
Munya’s defection drama played out soon after the August 8th general Election.
He was received by NASA top brass at Capital Hill where he bitterly complained about being rigged out by Jubilee party, only for him to be received back into jubilee fold by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto at Statehouse.
Both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Governor Kiraitu Murungi had pleaded with Munya to withdraw the petition after agreeing to campaign for Uhuru after a meeting at statehouse but he defied saying he hadn’t filed it for himself but for the people of Meru.
Sources say an agreement has been reached for Munya to be appointed as a Cabinet Secretary and that would only be actualized after withdrawal of petition challenging Kiraitu.
