Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Sonko has nominated controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna for the Nairobi Deputy Governor position.

Sonko forwarded Miguna’s name to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi on Wednesday for vetting and approval by the House.

“I hereby forward my nominee, Lawyer Miguna Miguna to undergo full vetting process and approval by the County Assembly for the position of Deputy Governor,” reads part of the letter.

“The nominee meets all the requirements provided for in the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, the Elections Act and County Government Act.”

Governor Sonko’s letter nominating Miguna Miguna

The Nairobi Deputy Governor’s seat fell vacant following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.

Miguna Miguna was set to return to Kenya on May 16th 2018 but postponed his coming blaming the Jubilee Government of failure to comply with Court orders instructing them to facilitate his return.

Miguna was deported out of the country to Canada after being arrested for participating in an illegal gathering and oathing of NASA leader Raila Odinga on January 30th 2018.

He is sharp critic of the Jubilee administration promising to ensure that President Uhuru Kenyatta is kicked out of power once he jets back to the country.

His nomination comes as a surprise to many Nairobians and Kenyans at large.

Miguna contested for Nairobi Gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate in 2017.
